Here are the steps to create smooth slow motion footage in Premiere Pro:
1. Import your video clip into a Premiere Pro sequence.
2. In the Timeline panel, locate the clip you want to apply slow motion to.
3. Right-click on the clip and select “Speed/Duration”.
4. In the Speed/Duration dialog box, check the “Timecode” option to enable frame sampling.
5. Change the Speed value to less than 100% – the lower the percentage, the slower the motion will be. 50% will play at half speed, 25% at quarter speed, etc.
6. Set the Frame Sampling ratio to “Nearest” – this will smooth out the slow motion by rendering new in-between frames using optical flow analysis.
7. Click OK to apply the new speed setting.
8. Optional: If you still notice stuttering, enable frame blending by right-clicking the clip and selecting “Show Clip Keyframes” > “Time Remapping” > “Frame Blending”.
Some additional tips:
– Higher resolution and frame rate source footage will give better slow motion quality.
– Moderate slow motion up to 50% looks smoothest. Extreme high percentages like 10% may introduce artifacts.
– Tweak the motion blur settings under the Frame Blending options for a more natural look.
Take your time previewing the slow motion effect at full resolution to fine tune the settings for the smoothest possible result.
